Hi Guys,

Decided that i was bored at the office a couple of hours ago, and went down to Park Rynie to see what the water was like and generally bugger about.

I saw a couple with nets and buckets etc, trying to catch specimens. I approached them to see what they had caught. I struck up a conversation with them, and it turns out that they have just started a tank 1 week ago, and the pet shop said that they can put fish in their tank after 7 days!!!!

On further conversing, i learned that they have also put some local corals in the tank, and the pet shop sold them 1 power-glo light and said that this was adequate for the keeping of corals!!!

I will not name the pet shop in question, but it is situated in Warner Beach (near Mille).

I told them about MASA, and hopefully they will come seeking some decent advise.

Aaaaai!!
The crap info that LFS sometimes give out.
There are very LFS that are "Real Dedicated' and knowlegeble.
Its quite scary. In think in CT there are like only two or three LFS that know there shite.
Other than that stay away from the others!!!!

This couple did not know much about fishkeeping, and would easily have been duped by the LFS.

People not "in the know" feel that the LFS knows everything there is to know about fishkeeping, it is their job after all????? But the LFS generally just want a quick buck.

I also think that LFS dont keep up with the times.
Its not easy actually.
Most of them are still stuck in the Freshwater days, so sometimes its just not about the buck.

yeah tell me about some of our local pet shops.dont know their elbow from their arse!

This pet shop has a display tank that mille set up a few years back, and in true mille fashion, it is amazing (or at least it was).

So when someone goes into the shop saying that they want to keep corals, one would assume that the salesperson would know.

Dobe what time does the dog show end on Saturday? I'll take you to some of our walking brain donor shops. I quote "What fish is that?? Dude i dunno it was cheap so i ordered it..do you want it?? awwww why not ??" No really ask Carl & Reefer.

Doberman and Copperband: You guys get most of your info from websites and books?
Any LFS or friends maybe?

Unfortunately there is rugby after the show CB, and i would like to see the Bulls get a hiding.

LFS i try and avoid for advice Mashrie. I've learnt loads from Carl, Midasblenny and Reefer (yes i know he has a LFS) but he doesn't count.

Mashrie, i have had marines on and off for 12 years, and learnt alot in the start through trial and error (more error).

I then learnt from the notorious Shaun from Duraquatics. But he did teach me loads.

THE LFS i kno them . P A ...... lekker encrusting corraline
growth on their tank !!!

This angers me everytime. Yet, I hear it over and over. I know more than enough LFS that are honest and upfront and make a very decent living. So no LFS can justify bad advice/service with profitability. The two concepts are not mutually exclusive as many of them obviously believe.

Mash, which LFSs in CT do you consider know their stuff? I get so much conflictin stuff from one to the next I get tangled up as to who is in the know and who thinks he knows.
