About a year and a half ago we decided to move back to Cape Town from JHB. It was a hard decision as it is a pain moving a reef tank. So I took the chance to build my dream tank and this is the journey.

The inspiration for this tank is Rudi Placht's tank.

and the cabinet work for the tank was inspired by the following.

Wow, can't wait to see your tank now.

Ok, so here we go.

Dimensions:
1500x1000x700

Sump:
1200x400x500

Refugium:
1200x450x500

Lighting:
I've kept my old Aqua Medic light unit from my previous tank.
4x T5
2x 250W MH

Flow:
4x VorTech MP40w

Return pump:
MD-5160 rated @ 5000l/h and maximum head of 6.7m
I'm NOT getting 5000l/h as my engine room is downstairs in the garage.
The uplift is 4m.
I'm using my old AM OR-3500 to feed my chiller and the refugium.

Skimmer:
Reef Octopus Bubble blaster cone in-sump with the Bubble blaster 5000 pump
Rated @ 2400l

Chiller:
Hailea 1/2HP from my old tank.

great build. its gonna be a stunner

Hey Eddie

I saw your sump setup when I picked up the Fiji pink aragonite the other day. Looking good! Your return pump is going to have to be a beast to get the water up all the way to the tank. Looking forward to the build!

Hi Jasper,

sorry I missed you when you came to collect. Would have loved to meet you in person. Hope you're happy with your stuff.
The return pump is handling. I'm not a big fan of a very strong return pump. The 4 Vortech's are doing a good job creating nice random flow in the main display.
