Spotted and Green Mandarin in same tank

I have had my Green Mandarin for over a year now all going well and now a friend is taking down his tank and asked if I wanted his Spotted Mandarin.

Will there be a problem in my 6ft tank? I have heard that Mandarins are not very sociable and can fight heavily with their own kind even when its same species and male and female, how will it work out with two males of different species?
 
I've only ever seen one tank with a breeding pair of mandarins and I think they were introduced to the tank at the same time. Like Leslie said, gut feel is no.

So no then? No validation on the no's? Wouldnt tank size, amount of rock and hiding space, different species etc play a part?

Else the other thing to do is take if off his hands and trade it at the LFS for a female Green...man but I love the spotteds they so different, plus they eat Flat worms!!! :)

Hi,

Is the fish eating Pods only or is it trained to eat on flakes / pallets?

I will not put two of them in the same tank.

One will stress.

Its pods only i guess...I am not worried about there being enough food for 2 there is plenty of life in my tank to sustain the two, plus I have a dedicated refugium feeding the tank as well to keep populations up. Plus keep in mind Spotteds are known to eat Flatworms too, which I have a breakout of in my tank anyway :p

That is Cool - so long as it eat.
It will just be cool to know if it has been trained to eat other food.


Like I said before - Dont take the change.
 
I bought mine form a chap in CTown who had 2 in a 1 met *600* 600 tank and one was getting hammered so dont look good! maybe if your tank is big enough so they have their own area.
I have read of it working in very big tanks

Two mandarin males from the same species or even spotted and green, blue or red, can´t be kept in the same tank.
You could get scooter blennies, they also eat the flatworms.

Thanks LF, ya I love Scooter Blennies awesome little fish. Its not that I was looking at something to eat the Flatworms, although thats a nice bonus, I was just wanting to take the spotted as I think its an even more awesome fish...pity its not a female. Oh well...guess I may take it to the LFS and swap it for a female when the time comes for him to take the tank down.

you been around too many banging pots and pans my Yes was to adding the coral beauty.. and a "try it if you wan"t to to the mandarin Q... but my gut feel is no. on the 2 different species and now that i know they are both males its a definate no...;)
