Fragging my GBTA

The time has come for my GBTA to be fragged. When I got home tonight it was the size of 2-3 dinner plates and stinging everything around it. It stung all my sps, some zoas, etc... My nemmie is a beaut but at the rate that this thing is growing i'm going to need a 2m cube just for the nemmie soon...;)
I will post pics of every step, gawiedj will be the cameraman with his awesome camera so we should get some pretty good pics. The plan is to slice it in half and let it recovery in a grow out tank under 150w MH's. i'm keen to see how quickly it will recover and grow to be out of control. I'm going to keep one half and the other half is going to go to jacquesb after they've recovered.

Wow that nennie is a beaut, how long have you had her and have you done anything new to stimulate growth ?
 
I've had her for almost a year. I did not do anything special. Regular feedings and freshly collected nsw i think is key. Every time i do a water change she just seems to be getting bigger.

I remember your advice. I won't feed at all for the first 10 days. Any idea on how long it will take for the 2 pieces to grow back to the original size?
 
A few months with heavy feeding and excellent conditions. However, if it were me, I would frag it again before it got that big. It seems there are a lot of people in SA wanting healty anemones. If I'm not mistaken, Calfo says you can frag again in 2 weeks (I could be wrong on that). I personally don't agree with fragging that soon. I would wait at least a month. I just prefer to see them eating well for a while before cutting again.
 
A newbie question, but is there any real difference between fragging a big girl like that into 2 or 4 ? surely the nennie is going to be unhappy either way, it just means she'll fit in the tank for longer, and make another two reefers happy at the same time . . .
 
I'm sure you can Eric, but with them healing within 10 days and the possibility of being able to frag it soon afterward i would not chance it to go for 4.

It can add to the stress of the anemone. Too much stress and the anemone may not survive. Some have done it with good results. I have not tried it. You want to make sure there is enough of the anemone left so that it can form a circle again. The anemone usually starts forming a circle again in the first hour after a cut. I wouldn't recommend it for beginners or on a small anemone.

Hi Jaak, interesting thread. Please also post some FTS's as I really like your rock. Is it natural?
If you pull the frag off successfully, I might be convinced to frag mine.

Hi Honda, go look at my thread under medium tanks for a FTS. That big piece of LR is natural and weighs 19,7kg's. It's my pride and joy... When I got it it was lying in a container outside in old nsw for a couple of months and it was covered in slime and the ammonia smell that come off of it was enough to make you puke but i scrubbed it clean and cured it in a tank in the garage for almost 7 months.
