reviving my hammer coral

i got given this hammer today from a pet shop. the guy said i can try revive it. joes juice got spilt on it and started to rot. there is not much left.

what should i do? frag the end pieces off? really wanna save this bugger. this it what it looks like:

Hi Brett,
My advice would have been not to frag it straight way. The coral has already been through a lot of stress. I would have rather flushed away any rotting bits then placed it in the tank (if you don’t have a hospital tank) giving it a gentle but constant flow and not too intense lighting. After a few weeks to a month, I would then frag it. This would have giving the best possible chance of survival. However you may still be luckily enough for it to pull through your “surgery” with flying colours. Good luck, hope it makes it.
 
I would agree with Millepora. That coral has been put through enough. Rqther focus on stabiling than doing anything too drastic. Clean the area as well as you can and then leave it be in a spot with enough flow to keep it "clean" whilst not too much flow which may stress it more under the circumstances.

there was no flesh inside when cut it open. but i think it worked! the hammer is comming out!!! :thumbup:

yea shame if had knowen i would of waited, if the lil bugger pulls through then hes a real piece of work! hes been through alot. next time i know :)

Awesome, Brett! The coral colony had "trauma"........ Until you removed the area causing the trauma..... now the colony have been "fragged", into smaller pieces, making 2 smaller colonies....
