HI

I joined MASA in January this year but this is my first post.

I have been on this website almost everyday from then following a few threads and i must say it has been very interesting.

I had a very rough time starting my reef tank cos i hooked up with a guy that has a small petshop who sold me a whole lot of rubbish and when i read these forums and got some help from a friend i realised that i got caught like a fish :(.

So on the 24/01/2009 i restarted and now my tank is almost 6 weeks old and happy with it.

Here is a list of what equipment i have now.

H&S SKIMMER
AM KALK STIRRER
TWO LITTLE FISHIES PHOSPHATE REACTOR
AM AUTO TOPUP UNIT
6 X 54W T5 - 3 WHITE 3 BLUE
JEBO CHILLER

I will post some pics of what my tank looked like when i started with the thief and how it transformed to what it looks like today.

Welcome to MASA, hope you enjoy it here with us. Waiting for those pics :)

WOW Mijeewa! Seems that the 2nd time around you got some AWESOME AWESOME kit there!

Awesome of you to have joined MASA! Great to have you on-board!

Please post the pics - and share any/all knowledge gained, so far, with us! I am QUITE sure that many new reefers would love to learn from your mistakes, if you don't mind!

sorry to hear you were ripped off! it happens but the best you can do is just research.
mijeewa why dont you join us for our East Coast Reef Club meetings? you will meet a lot of local reefers and be able to get a lot of face to face advice and possibly have a few :peroni:. Have a look at the links in my signature
enjoy your stay!!!

mijeewa great stuff! welcome :) You'll see there are quite a lot of people with invaluable advise :) My tank have been running now for about 14 months without serious hick-ups... most members haven't seen it yet, so I guess I'd have to start a thread too, at some stage! :)

Thanks for the warm welcome.

here is pic of the tank when i first started and that b*******d sold me some local rock that after some research showed that it was useless but ended up using it in my sump. The "rock" so he says was made up of all very small pieces and alot of dead corals. He told me we should take it slow with the live stock then 8 days later he sold me about 7 butterfly fish which all died in the first week and only the spotted hawk fish survived.

this is how it looked and he told me dont worry it will be fine after about a month.

As you can see the skimmer in the sump also was not at the right level to work properly and that skimmer would have never coped with the load of this size tank.
So i bought the H&S skimmer.

this pic is when it started to take some shape. i ended up buying about 80kg of LR from northlands......not cheap

great start !

Very nice, glad you changed the light stand :006:

Nice job - WOW, keeping an eye on this one :)

here's a few more pics of the some equipment

masahello

may i be so bold as to make a suggestion to the above.
where you have your LR add a sand bed of 12cm, then place a eggcrate stand about 3cm above the stand and place the LR on top of that. it will add so much more filtration and increase the flow around your LR, i did the same with mine

could not agree more with you Dallas
