Starting to cycle a Boyu TL 550

I have been reading all the advise, you guys have given in the past on Boyu tanks and last night I fired the tank up. Bio balls removed, sponge removed, ceramic rings removed.

I am getting live rock today, which I will put in tonight.

Will put in carbon and phosphate remover tomorrow.

One question, the live rock has got mushrooms etc on it, what are the chances of the mushrooms surviving the cycling process?
 
They will survive. Might need to right your lights for a few hours a day though.
 
I am running the standard lights on the Boyu. 2x24w PL lights.

I hope this will be sufficient.
 
Mushrooms and polyps are doing well despite ammonia levels going off the charts.

There seems to be a few tiny little shrimps running arround.

Need some help posting pics.

Hi Kevin - posting pics are quite easy:
Here are the basic steps:
1) resize your pics that the pics themselves are smaller than 700 pixels by 700 pixels in size, and the file size is smaller than 150 KB - you can use either a freeware tool called IRFanView, or IF you have MS Office 2003 (or later) installed, then you should have a tool called Microsoft Office Picture Manager installed. The latter is extremely easy to use (Picture -> Resize)
2) Then, once you have your smalled pictures, then click on the "Quick Upload" link below this "Post Quick Reply" box: |

Is it not 800x600.
 
Kev. if i where you concerning the lighting i would take the top off can get a lighting pendent.
Matt tried to do some lighting tricks in that tank but there is not space for enough light
( depending on what you wanting to keep ie nemmies etc) . I had a boyu 24g that you can stick another 24watt bulb. but with your tank its tricky. there is hardly enough space.
 
Congrats on starting up, now just be patient and enjoy watching how more and more live starts to develope over the next couple weeks. Nice shrooms ;)

LOL! Hi Thalion - officially it is 800 pixels by 800 pixels....

Personally I have experienced that the pics are NEARLY guaranteed to load if they are smaller than 700 pixels by 700 pixels in size..... Otherwise the uploader sometimes gives crap.
 
Thanks, picked them up from Lanzo last week.

I have a few kilos of cement rock still curing, which will go under these in time.

They may survive, they may not, you'll just have to hope for the best.

These Boyu 450 and 550 tanks certainly are popular.
