Hey MASA, I have a question, how do I make my existing pod population multiply?
had a mice colony that came with my cheato, but when my salinity went op to 1.030:m85:, it looks like most died, as I cant see as many as I used to. or is there a way someone night be able to give me some pods?

Just give it time they will multiply and your tank will be full of them again

where I had plenty, they are about 3 that I can see at a time.. it is frustrating as I want to get a manderin soon, but with a pod population being at a all time low now will not be a smart time to get one now.
is there something I can do to make them populate a bit faster?

Candle light with Barry White playing in the background......wait that does work with pods. Aslong as there is food and a safe place to hide from predators and multiply not one can do but wait

Or try get some from someone else tank. Put a cheato ball / very pourous sponge into thier tank and give it a few weeks for them to move in

I think your tank is too small to be able to sustain a Mandarin. Sorry... :(

@Franna29 if you don't mind me "high-jacking" your thread I have a question along these lines ....

Is it possible/a good idea to have a pod population in the sump? If so, would you have to physically move them occasionally into the DT or would they get sucked up via your return pump? Would they survive that trip? I assume that in the sump they would be less prone to other predators?

yes, the population grows in you refugium where they are safe from predators, and then make the trip to your dt via the return. and some populate in your dt and hide in your live rock and come out at night. that is what I have experienced.

And what did you use to make this refugium ? Live rock rubble, cheato ? I have no idea where to get cheato from ....

my refugium is in my sump, middle compartment , cheato you can get from fellow reefers maybe or I got mine from my LFS, had some pods in the cheato, but think my salinity swing killed most again:m85:

Also if you take an old container (clean marg tub) and make a couple small entrances and put it upsidedown in tank with a rock on top. Pods generally seem to breed in a safe, hidden environment.

great idea @Hails , do you think pods prefer the dark to light, if so I think I might do that in my sump. maybe the population multiply faster?
