Just a warning for users of the Maxspect Razor...

Earlier today while sitting in my lounge I saw a small flame beginning to burn just above the cabinetry of my tank. Lucky enough I was in the room so I could quickly put it out with minimal damage. I do not want to put people off this LED unit as it has worked superbly for me in the past however upon further reading I found some posts of defective units where this can occur. What I found most interesting however was when comparing the one 160 watt unit to the other was the differences that could actually be seen in the electronics, which leads me to think the manufacturers are aware of this defect.

As i said, in no way should this put you off the light as it has given amazing growth, coloration and viewing, and is obviously just one of those glitches that happens to minority of units in the manufacturing process. I guess that the warranty will (hopefully) allow for the unit to be replaced by the sponsor from whom i received the unit.

Here are some pics below of the unit which caught on fire and the other working unit which speak for themselves.

So a quick visit to the LFS who supplied the unit and spares were readily available to get the unit back into working order. Fantastic service as usual and the light is back up and running. My dad always says not to judge a brand on their product, but on the support that is provided for that product. In this case the support was great and i came away feeling a lot happier knowing if future problems were to occur i would have somewhere to turn.

One interesting thing to note is that the replacement unit has the same black heat sinks as the Razor which has been working perfectly as opposed to the faulty white ones. This may be purely coincidental but i did find it interesting to note the difference.

A new light won't be very comforting when your whole house burns down though... Car and electronics companies would issue a recall and replace units before something terrible happened.

I had 2 of my 5. Replaced by Peckoltia I had to send number 3 to them and awaiting a replacement as its is flashing. The 4th and 5th are on my other rank number 5 just melted its PC board and now has no blue leds number 5 has been repairs 3 times by myself Already. Henk ignores watapps

Hi guys, before we get out the pitch forks.

You bought the units from a store and the units carry a warranty.
The first step is to take it up with the store.

The store will take it up with their supplier.

I would be just as upset as you if this happend to me!

The chance is good that the store will replace the faulty units.

We have followed those steps as peckoltia is the supplier and not retailer. Struggling with the supplier badly.
