Cleaning dirty live sand

put it in a bucket with a canister filter and use water from you water change stirring the sand and letting the pump clear up the water then stirring again mad letting the canister do its thing and so on until the sand is clean...

other way is let the sand dry in the sun for few days then wash it with regular tap water until clean... rinse with RO water and you done..

Rinse in tap water, put a bit in a old salt bucket and rinsed until clean. Then do the next batch. Rinse one final time with RO water, and then with old tank water from water change. It will still result in a cycle, as dead bacteria will still be there. Although the detritus and other crap is now gone.

Thanks Riaan sounds good

I used my fish net and filter my live sand with my return pump and a flex hose in a bucket with the old tank water....all the chunks stays behind and the fine sand filters through.

rinse with tap water, rinse with vinegar, then its all clean and dead, can add back after a brief rinse in RO, the residual vinegar will help kick start things and keep the cyano away :)
been doing it like that for years
