Yes, us SA reefers have seen the forensics one is able to extract from social media. The Pistorius trial has hi-lighted how easy data and social media information is retrieved.

I am wondering how this will affect the free information exchange!!!

Will this deter members from giving advice on MASA.

Just throwing some thoughts out there for discussion.

hopefully not.

But you should never post anything that can be used against you on any social media. Especially Facebook. Young kids (varsity level) mostly do not know how bad that can effect them next year or thereafter when looking for work. New company can easily do a Facebook look up and see all you drunken student pics and comments.

You can set your setting so that only close friends can see yout posts on fb. Even a friend can have their access to your profile edited. My boss and I are friends on fb but I have implemented this for a bit of privacy.

The age old rule: if you got nothing to say rather dont say it.. and especially post it on social media.

A guy got suspended from our school for posting how one of our teachers is a b!tch on Facebook... he thought it was so funny until a teacher commented

Would he have had the balls to say that to her face? don't think so. Never say something that you are unwilling to say to the person infront of an audience.

I was always told, if you are going to commit a crime make sure everybody around you commits it with you. That way there are no witnesses.:tt2: So what I'm trying to say is, I'm not planing to shoot my girlfriends through the bathroom door, so I've got no problem posting reefing answers on MASA.

Concerning MASA, well no!

There are a few simple rules to consider to stay within the law.
So I strongly doubt this would influence posts on MASA.

So keep the posts coming!

Freedom of speech within boundries think before you say something in anger as what is said on the net stays on the net. Bad mouthing people or companies on open forum I say is a no go as it can come bite you later on...

Anyway that's me for the week Happy posting...

This thread was just a thought.

I had no idea how this would play out or is playing out regarding the kingi in Holland. Threads posted in other forums, deletions and cover ups are a panic ATM.

Where is this going to lead to the boards? What change is envisaged? is there going to be change? well my answer to that question is yes, because technology changes.

But in what direction? Is one because one wants exclusion from the WWW? Is it because of traceability?Trends are the use of free information to create new business concepts and social contact.

Interesting year or two ahead of us..

Responsible posting, that's what it comes down to. Responsibility encompasses many aspects, from being respectful and not belligerent and defamatory to posting info that you can either be backed up with other literature or sharing a personal experience (which might not be agreed with by others).

In terms of the Kingi, amazing how such a fish brings out the worst in people (I don't even think its a pretty fish!!). It's not even endangered. If it was done legally from BEGINNING to END, in ALL aspects (from local permits to international permits, to method of collection), I really don't see the fuss.
Granted, my knowledge obtained from the permit system is restricted to reptiles and birds and for fish I get info from fellow reefing buddies, and my local post office (once) when I went puddle hoping in Uvongo

Carlos, people must not get the impression that I am negative in any way. These are just thoughts and possible reasons why some reefers may be frightened to post. We need to find a way to make reefers feel confident that their posts are legal.

It is great that people breed and propagate marine life and share the information. I support that because it is going to better the hobby and reduce the impact on our oceans. Is is all about reefers being assured that the information they share is not going to be used against them in any way some day.

As I have said before, we need to find a way to insure confidence and protect these reefers.
