feeding Anthias in a quarantine holding system. Got 2 in there on day 20.

But it does not seem that they are eating as they should. Flakes just get spit out.

What options are there to feed them.I cannot continue feeding frozen as it does mess with the parameters. It is a 90L display and another 90L sump with TS1 skimmer and lots of bio-balls.

Currently on lobster eggs and reef paste. About 4 to 5 times a day. Lobster eggs gets defrosted in RO and using a syringe I use one cube over 3 feedings.

What else can I try?

maybe some clyclopeeze ...that will float on the water surface and you can scoop it up after every feed (what's left) plus it contains very high levels of fatty acids ect

what type of anthias is it..will help with regard to feeding as some are more challenging than others

normal orange.

the ones that you frequently see at the shops. About R200 each if I remember correctly

sea goldies, Pseudanthias squamipinnis

i use new era foods, no better food
you can use the grazers and place in semi flow area and it will break up like plankton

also brightwell macrovore food

what about live foods.
when i got my scooter gobies they would not eat anything, then feed them every day live brine shrimp for 2 weeks now they eat everything i feed my fish.

Spot on busanmarc.
To trigger a feeding response with anthias, nothing beats a swarm of live artemia naupolii.
Slowly start mixing other foods in with the live food and the battle is as good as won.

only lobster eggs.

But feeding them frozen foods in a smallish quarantine system 2 or 3 times a day is not working.

All 4 died. They just refused to eat. Maybe I realized too late that they are actually not eating. At first, it did look like they take fine flakes. But later, checking them out, it became clear that they are just spitting it out again.

Will try anthias again later. When I at home for the 6 weeks and do not have to relay on the tank sitter to watch them as well.

Yip I bought mine last week Friday, for some reason the male died the next day and two of my other fish blue/green chromis and Sailfin/Algea Blenny. Maybe a bug or something that the Anthia brought along. The other one is still okay, I went back to the LFS and asked what they are feeding them as I asked them the day when I bought them they said they feed on anything but prefer the flakes so I got some flakes but he is still not eating.

when I had goldies , they used to eat tetra bits but they must be soaked in tank water or ro before adding to soften it. You can even try this with the flake also.

When we land new Anthias we feed a cocktail of lobster eggs, mysis and reef paste. The reef paste triggers the feeding response.

I feed my personal ones the same cocktail but with other foods and twice a day.
