Vinegar vs Vodka dosing vs Biocubes

I prefer the solid forms such as NP pellets or Bio-Cubes purely from a ease of use point of view. The risk of overdosing and the need to change dosages every now and then is just too much hassle for me and that puts me off. Some people prefer this method as they feel they have more control but I prefer low maintenance stuff. I personally use Bio-Cubes.

For me Bio-cubes is the way to go, I had great success keeping and growing sps where Bio-cubes keeps my No3 and Po4 in check.

I was using bio cubes and moved over to dosing vinegar. I have an automatic dosing unit which takes the pain out of the daily dosing and it is a lot more cost effective. The cubes are great and I loved them, by far the easiest method I have ever come across, it just started getting quite expensive from when I first started using them, they have almost doubled in price from when I first bought them.

I've heard that dosing vodka can cause cyano breakouts, vodka is also substantially more expensive than vinegar and would be better used is a glass with some coke and ice imo :)

With the cost dropping on automatic dosing units you can almost buy one for the same investment you are going to make buying cubes, the dosing unit also has the benefit of dosing other things such as Ca, Mg, Alk etc. I saw at some stage the new Jebao DP-4 dosing unit was selling for as little as R1400 which is more than half of what a decent 4 channel dosing unit used to cost.

well as all know i use bio-cubes, fire and forget and i have no isues... besides they are cheap to run

Tried cubes... Was a absolute waste of time for me.

Now dosing vsv... Very efficient and cheaper than cubes by far... Much more control too

Vinegar sugar vodka...

Vodka sugar vinegar...

I like the control factor vsv gives me and there is no guessing involved.

Adding cubes or pellets or removing cubes or pellets really does not help me when I am trying to zone in between certain numbers.

And it is dirt cheap to run

Vsv is the most scientific / CHEAPest / controllable way of controlling nutrients in a reef system.

Cleaning a easy thin white film now and again off your display glass (which the fish and coral enjoy) beats changing out cubes and all algae issues...

i plan on using macro algae and skimming, way easier

normal white spirit vinegar 5%
