Hi guys,

Sorry for the stupid question. I am setting up my first tank and bought the Red Sea Marine Care kit which tests Ammonia, Nitrate, Nirite, PH and Alkalinity. What other test kits do I need? I have read alot about Calcium, Magnesium and Phosphate but do i need those test kits as well?

thanks,
Maximus

yes you can get them as they will help create stability in your params for corals etc

Yes, I would definitely recommend them!
If you are going for a fish only system, you can only get the phosphates kit to detect when your phosphates are getting too high & you have to replace phosphate absorbers.
If your going for a reef tank... They the calcium & magnesium is very important as that is 2 of the 3 coral building elements (alkalinity is the third)

Hello fellow reefers

What would be the best care kit to purchase when starting out? The Red Sea Marine kit is great, any other good value, ease of use and accurate kits available?

i use salifert, affordable and as accurate as you need from a hobbyist test kit

@dallasg. Thanks for the info. I will investigate. Any all inclusive technology devices out there that can measure the levels?

the costs are worth it, and once your tank is running and you have stability, you only need to test every fortnight
