Please note the following as in MASA rules

Groups buys are not allowed if the items being purchased are in direct competition to items already supplied by current sponsors. This does not apply to DIY projects.
Marine Aquariums South Africa Rules

We had a couple of threads where guys are looking to get others included into a group buy, but that product already do have a local retailer.

Just an idea/suggestion...
Wouldn't it be easier if the local retailer makes it non feasible for consumers to buy internationally?

Like give competitive prices.
prices where I can say nah its not worth it to buy else where as it will cost the same if I buy it locally...

Key word is DIY.

Do you realize that the wholesalers bringing in lighting and electrical goods have to pay 20% duties on lighting products.. Also they have to have a letter of compliance or SABS certificate. These certificates cost in excess of R30k per line item.

Imagine if you get involved in a group buy and customs demands LOC or SABS before release. Then what? Who it going to pay the R30k+ for the LOC or SABS certificate?

Just my 2c.

Please let me know which of your sponsor sells the ones i posted about cause i couldn't find them locally
Reef Aquatics

But then again, they got a number of different light units. If they still support the specific model I do not know. Maybe the later model as I do see those are a new range. But they did do the previous model.

Even if the exact item is not sold by sponsors in South Africa
direct competition to items

Gotya basically don't bother trying to do group buys here will try elsewhere then

No bud that is not a cool attitude. No need to throw your toys to try and get your own way. The sponsors and members here provide a huge service to provide information to help all in the hobby.

.

Not possible to compete Ridwaan. For all the reasons previously posted in this thread.

I am going to gloat when a reefer thinks he/she is clever and the import is impounded awaiting LOC or SABS cert's.

Only then will the consumer understand why pricing is where it is. :m106:

I some how missed a few threads but our name was mentioned. Markups on products are not exorbitant. We not only pay customs duties, vat but we also pay degrouoage fees and airline handing fees for shipments. We also warranty products we support on our expense. The products we sell are under our company banner and ensure integrity.

So should something go wrong with the product you have instant English speaking support of the product in the same time zone.

Something to consider and pay just a tad bit more for.

Saving money is great and we strive to give you this but don't ever forget after service support this is also most important.

Think of the price difference sending a faulty product to cape Town or to China. Think about the turn around time in how fast we can supply you with a replacement

I agree with Andre. Your prices are very reasonable and definitely worth it but there are some suppliers here that are charging double the price of some units and that is definitely not fair as there is no reason to have such high prices.

Understood and makes sense...

I am afraid prices are going to rocket.

Many wholesalers shipments are being withheld at customs awaiting LOC and or SABS cert's. Many wholesalers are trimming back on line items because the cost to obtain all these cert's is prohibitive.

I know of many big wholesalers that have had big money shipments withheld due to LOC and SABS cert's. Some for over 6 months and are being charged for storage until the shipment is cleared.

Business is rallying to stop this unfair advantage online purchasing and small business have. The day is coming, when inspectors will enter a LFS and ask for SABS Cert's on products. IT IS CALLED CUSTOMER PROTECTION.

You guys are using poor clearing agents if this is your case.
